Many of the cleaning products that Americans depend on in their homes and businesses contain harmful chemicals. Even products branded as “green” may contain potentially hazardous ingredients.

Common ingredients in traditional chemical cleaning are ammonia, bleach, and volatile organic compounds(VOCs). Any of these can cause or contribute to respiratory conditions and much worse.

VOCs and other dangerous chemicals are commonly found in a variety of products including; Aerosols, detergent, upholstery cleaners, and furniture polish. Of course, there are more.

The best way to prevent harm from household cleaning products is to avoid any chemical cleaning products. Instead, choose all natural, organic, and biodegradable cleaning products for your home. The US EPA has compiled a list of what it calls, “Safer Choice” products to help consumers choose better options. It can be found here(http://www2.epa.gov/saferchoice)
